News 2010

IHDT 28th November Despite surrounding snow the Sparsholt venue was clear of anything icy apart from the biting wind which didn't let up all day. A slightly reduced entry due to people traveling from further a field and the results are on the Results page. With the reduced entry everyone was glad to get away before dark and head home for a welcome warm up.
AGM 20th November A new venue of the appropriately named White Horse Inn in Downton saw 40 members attend the AGM. After the business of agreeing the accounts and presenting the trophies (Details of winners will be in the next newsletter) the new committee members were welcomed to the committee. Andi Rutledge is the new club secretary and is joined on the committee by husband Alan, both founding members of the club and they were also joined by Anthony Cooper. This business proceedings were followed by some very good food and a game of killer skittles which was won by Steve Harbach and he donated the £32 prize money to Children in Need.
IHDT 24th October  The first indoors went off without a hitch and a full house of 20 competitors enjoyed Julias first cones course. There were many cries of come back Steve all is forgiven! many thank to all those that helped and the results are on the Results page
Merrist Wood IHDT 17th October Well done all WHHC members at Merrist Wood. Nicola Blandin 1st Novice Pony with Troy on a dressage score of 17.5!!! and Matt Were 2nd Open Horse on a Dressage score of 19.5!!
2nd - 3rd October IHDT training. - Well all I can say is those of you that did not attend missed a great opportunity to get some great coaching from Di Hayes and Naomi Harbach and what you lost out on was the attendees gain as we got more time to practice and play.

Saturday started with Di walking everyone through the P&P test with plenty of time to ask questions and many of us found we had been driving elements wrongly so many areas for improvement. Those on foot benefited not only from the walk but being able to sit and listen to Di critique the 5 turnouts that drove the test. Once to practice and then a marked test. After lunch a cones course that included some awkward angles, a slalom and a step out was walked and then driven by the five turnouts again each getting a couple of drives and for those that had trouble with a particular element Di was great at coaching them until they got it right.

Sunday there were only 3 turnouts and one attendee on foot so we had plenty of time to play in the 2 obstacles in the morning and then after lunch we drove the obstacles in reverse with again great coaching from Naomi.

A big thank you from those of us that attended to Di and Naomi for their time and from Naomi for organising this and hopefully we can repeat this next year.

26th September A lovely day was had by the 9 turnouts that attended the drive and cones at Pitchers Farm , Farley.

The weather was kind so the 5 mile route around Pitchers Farm and Anthony Coopers land was very enjoyable through fields and  woodland. We then had a practice round  around the cones course and then a second timed round. The winner was no Surprise with Di Hayes taking the red rosette with Troy. There were also a couple of obstacles to have a practice round which was really good for the couple of young novice ponies attending.

All in all a great day out and those that didn't attend missed a great drive and relaxed atmosphere to have a practice in

National Championships

Congratulations to all members who competed at the BHDTA National Championships. Once again this year we had some fantastic results from all classes across the board, with some being crowned champions! And how lovely that many of the club members were there to support and watch them throughout the event.

In the novice horse class Matt Were was crowned champion with ‘Davinci’ and Pam Evans was 8th. In the open pony class Naomi Harbach took first place with ‘The Apple Tart’ with Nicola Blandin driving ‘Dabido’ a close 2nd and Cathy Willis driving ‘Saffron’ was 9th. Karen Scott Barrett was a very respectable 3rd in the open horse class. Alan Rutledge finished 4th with his pony pair in the open class. Sue Mayes driving her tandem of ponies was second and husband Derek was also second in the open horse pair’s class.

In addition to that Brenda May and Brian Evans were awarded the BHDTA supporters club 'Steward of the Year' award by chairman Tony Bache at the Windsor National Championships, they were gobsmacked and all those WHHC members at the presentation raised the roof with cheers of support.

BRING YOUR BRA’S ALONG TO REDENHAM PARK HORSE DRIVING TRAILS

 BAG-A-BRA DAY - 27TH MAY 2010 -

Thank you for showing your support for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and women in West Africa

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, as well as many women in West Africa , need your discarded bras please. HIOWAA work with a recycling company called ‘Bag it up’, who recycle donated clothes, which are processed and then sent to other countries for resale. HIOWAA receives payment in relation to the weight of clothing donated, which is then used to help maintain the service of the air ambulance across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight .

Bras are worth more money per tonne than most other textiles, this is because it takes a lot of bras to make up a tonne! We hasten to add though, please keep donating all other clothes, shoes and textiles into our charity textile banks. These are invaluable, and a sustainable source of income for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance

Recycling of bras is slightly different, as most of the donated bras are shipped to West Africa for resale to local women, at affordable prices.

The underwear gives women prestige and helps to raise their self-esteem, which are certainly very emotive reasons to dig into the bra drawer to find an unwanted bra or two!

We are asking companies, clubs and individuals to collect unwanted bras in the lead up to 27th May, and on the day itself, to deposit the bags of bras in your local Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Recycling Banks (we can advise you of the nearest one to you if you would kindly supply us with your post code)
